The second generation Porsche 996 GT3 arrived for the 2004 model year as the ultimate evolution of Porsche's first water cooled homologation special. Developed directly from motorsport experience and powered by the legendary Mezger engine, the 996.2 GT3 has become one of the most sought after modern Porsches. Free from electronic driver aids and equipped with a six speed manual transmission, it represents an era when driver involvement was placed above all else.
This particular example is presented in the iconic Speed Yellow, one of the most desirable colours available on the GT3, and combines low mileage, documented history and careful ownership into a highly collectable package. Chassis number WPOZZZ99Z4S691167 was first registered in March 2004.

About this 911 GT3

This GT3 was originally delivered in Japan, where it accumulated only 28,762 kilometres during its first decade of life. It later moved to the United Kingdom and subsequently to the Netherlands, creating a fully traceable ownership history documented through service records, inspection reports and registration documents. The mileage progression is exceptionally well documented and supports the car's remarkably low use throughout its life. From Japan to the present day, the accompanying history file demonstrates consistent maintenance and careful stewardship. The car is finished in factory "Speedgelb" and fitted with the desirable leather bucket seats embossed with Porsche crests. Standard equipment includes Litronic Xenon headlights, Porsche CDR23 radio with CD player, heated mirrors and top tinted windscreen. In 2022 the car received a genuine Manthey suspension package installed by Porsche Centrum Rotterdam, further enhancing the already exceptional chassis balance without compromising the originality of the car's presentation.

Exterior

Few colours suit a GT3 better than Speedgelb. The distinctive fixed rear wing, sculpted front bumper and wide rear haunches create an unmistakably purposeful appearance, while the vibrant yellow paintwork leaves no doubt about the car's motorsport intentions.

A recent independent inspection found largely factory paint readings across the body, while noting repainting of the front bonnet and front spoiler during the car's life. The same report mentions a minor blemish beneath the left rear taillight. Overall, the car presents extremely well and remains a striking example of the increasingly coveted 996 GT3.

Interior

The cabin remains faithful to Porsche's GT philosophy, functional, lightweight and entirely focused on the driving experience. The factory bucket seats provide excellent support and remain among the most desirable options fitted to the 996 GT3.

Inspection reports note generally good interior condition, with only minor age related observations including a missing luggage compartment lamp. The cabin retains the wonderfully analogue character that has made the Mezger powered GT3 models so celebrated among enthusiasts.

Engine and drivetrain

At the heart of the car lies Porsche's revered 3.6 litre naturally aspirated Mezger flat six. Originally developed from Porsche's endurance racing programme, it is regarded as one of the most robust and engaging engines ever installed in a road going 911.

The engine is paired with a six speed manual gearbox and delivers the raw, direct driving experience that has made the 996 GT3 a benchmark modern classic.

Documentation shows a consistent history of specialist maintenance across Japan, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, including major services, fuel system work, ignition components, cooling system repairs, new suspension components, gearbox service work and extensive brake maintenance.

A technical inspection performed in 2023 verified a complete service history, original VIN identification and excellent mechanical condition. The diagnostic report recorded only three ignitions in range 1 and a single ignition in range 2, further supporting the car's careful use throughout its life.

Service and maintenance

The car has been regularly maintained by Porsche Centres and recognised Porsche specialists, with documented work including:

  • 06.2023 – 43,018 km – Dutch APK inspection completed.
  • 02.2023 – 41,962 km – Porsche Centrum Rotterdam purchase inspection.
  • 09.2022 – 41,775 km – Manthey suspension kit installed and geometry completed at Porsche Centrum Rotterdam.
  • 06.2022 – 41,775 km – Major service, brake fluid, gearbox oil, spark plugs, fuel filter, brake discs and brake pads replaced.
  • 12.2020 – 25,835 km – Preparation for Dutch registration and inspection.
  • 10.2020 – 25,384 km – Water hose repairs, front struts replaced and crankshaft seal repair at Porsche Centre West London.
  • 06.2020 – 23,673 km – Major maintenance, fuel filter, spark plugs, coil packs, brake fluid, air conditioning service and numerous preventative maintenance items.
  • 05.2020 – 22,960 km – Fuel system overhaul including fuel pump and filter replacement.
  • 04.2019 – 20,996 km – Porsche service and MOT inspection.
  • 06.2018 – 18,588 km – 111 point Porsche inspection, new Michelin front tyres, battery, air conditioning overhaul and new key.
  • 04.2018 – 18,454 km – Porsche Centre Guildford major maintenance and 111 point inspection.

Summary

The 996 GT3 has rapidly evolved from a niche enthusiast choice into one of the most appreciated modern Porsche collectibles. Its Mezger engine, analogue driving experience and direct motorsport connection place it among the most significant GT cars of the modern era.

This Speed Yellow example offers exactly what discerning collectors seek: desirable specification, low mileage, international provenance, extensive documentation and a substantial history file supporting decades of careful ownership and maintenance. Combined with the Manthey suspension upgrade and extensive Porsche Centre servicing, it represents a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally well documented 996 GT3.
