The Land Rover Series range was originally introduced in 1948 and went on to become one of the most iconic and long-lasting vehicle line-ups in automotive history. Its evolution ultimately led to the Defender, which remained in continuous production until 2016, spanning an impressive 67 years. Inspired by the rugged Willys Jeep of the post-World War II era, the Land Rover quickly established itself as a global symbol of durability and versatility, exported and produced across numerous markets worldwide.
About this Series III
This beautifully restored 1972 Land Rover Series III 2.25 Petrol (LHD) is an outstanding example of the marque, offered following a full frame-off restoration completed between 2021 and 2022. The process took over a year and involved more than 1,000 hours of work, resulting in a vehicle restored to an very high level of originality and functionality.
The car was completely disassembled and rebuilt, with approximately 95% of all components either replaced or restored to original specifications. Hundreds of new parts have been installed throughout, making this a turn-key and highly collectible example. Since completion, the car has covered only around 2.000 km, contributing to its current total mileage of approximately 61.500 km.
Exterior
The exterior has been restored with a focus on authenticity and durability. The chassis has been treated with Waxoyl and finished in black anti-corrosion paint, ensuring both long-term protection and a factory-correct appearance.
Numerous components have been replaced with new items, including doors, windows, hinges, locks, and hardware. A brand-new Exmoor soft top enhances both aesthetics and usability, while a set of Michelin XCA Plus 750/R16 tyres complete the classic and purposeful stance of the vehicle.
Interior
Inside, the cabin retains its classic Land Rover character, which is known for its simple, functional, and robust character, while presenting in excellent condition throughout. The front features three comfortable deluxe black vinyl seats, while the rear is fitted with two fold-down seats trimmed in later 90/110 “Moorland Grey” fabric.
All seating surfaces are in impeccable condition, showing little to no signs of wear or damage. The dashboard, instruments, lighting, and two-level heating system are all fully functional, offering a driving experience that is both authentic and reliable.
Engine
The 2.25-litre petrol engine has been completely rebuilt with numerous new components and performs exactly as intended, for smooth and dependable operation. Supporting systems, including the radiator, heater, battery, and generator, have also been replaced or renewed as part of the restoration.
In addition, both the gearbox and transmission have been rebuilt, and all suspension components are new, resulting in a composed and confident driving experience both on and off the road.
Service and maintenance
The vehicle has recently undergone a fresh oil and filter service, including the gearbox and transfer case in July 2024, ensuring it is fully prepared for immediate use.
With only limited mileage since its restoration, the car presents in outstanding mechanical condition and requires no immediate attention.
Summary
This Land Rover Series III is a rare opportunity to acquire a fully restored and highly usable classic, finished to an exceptional standard. With its extensive rebuild, minimal post-restoration mileage, and good mechanical condition, it is perfectly suited for Land Rover collectors and enthusiasts seeking an authentic driving Series III.
